Renee dropped out of school in the 11th grade to care forher mother who had a brain andurysm, more than 10 years ago. Her mother has continued to make improvements.
Renee wanted to go back to school, but transportation proved to be a problem. A bus ride would have taken one to one and a half hours EACH WAY from West Ashley to downtown Charleston to Trident Literacy's TC Drayton Center because of transfers and connections. So Renee took a taxi each, costing $20 a day, two to three days a week for several months. TC Drayton site manager, Stella Necker, fixed her up with tutor Susan Ditterline, who met her at the West Ashley library to do her tutoring.
When Susan got the news that REnee passed the GED, she made a special trip to her house to tell her. Renee is now enrolled in Trident Tech's Dental Assistant program.
